To the marriage of two of our very good friends. This was one of Jeremiah’s best friends growing up, and the only one who lives anywhere close(ish) to us. His fiance (wife today!!) is the nicest girl I could imagine, and they are perfect for each other. Even better, they adore Matthew. He really treats Matthew more like his nephew, than his friend’s child. It makes me so happy to see them interact with him like family, and they are our family.
Jeremiah will be a groomsman, Matthew the ring bearer. I am nervous, but excited. I know that even if he doesn’t do things perfectly, everybody is just going to think he’s ridiculously cute. He looks adorable in his little fancy pants and vest, with the tiny little tie. Of course, Jeremiah looks really sexy in his fancy pants, vest and tie.
I can’t wait. You better bet I will have lots of pictures. Most of them will be private if they show any part of the wedding party, but I will still try to post a picture or two of Matthew himself. Yes, I am wearing a dress, and no, you will probably not get to see that.
How do you feel about kids having electronic gadgets? We’re raising one of the first generations of kids who are relying on technology more and more every day. It started with young kids getting tamagotchis and nano pets (remember those?), then pagers, cell phones, and now smart phones and tablets, even laptops. I had one of those vtech “laptops” that had a 2″x3″ black and grey screen. THAT was advanced and cool at that time.
How do you feel about parents buying their kids things like iPads? If you think it’s okay, what age is acceptable? Honestly, I wouldn’t buy my 16 year old an iPad. Laptop for school, maybe. Something that encourages productivity and helps with homework, etcetera. I just don’t think young children need those kinds of things. As the years pass, kids are having to use their imaginations less and less, because their entertainment consists of television and video games, and now – apps.
Matthew’s newest toy is a 24 piece Cars puzzle. He also got a toy firetruck. At home he has Megablocks as well as Legos.. a train set, an RC car or two.. nowhere will you find electronic toys. He knows how to play with the calculator on my phone, as well as a puzzle game. I let him play them when I need him to be occupied away from home, i.e. a doctor’s office. Most of the time, he’ll still choose to look at and pretend to read books over my phone, and that’s the way I like it. If I can do one thing good for my child as he grows, it’s encourage creativity and the ability to create his own stories and ideas without the help of a touch-screen.
I have been trying really hard the past few months to get in shape and try to lose weight, or at least fat. So far I’ve built a ton of muscle, which leaves me at the same weight, but I’m in much better shape than I was, say, six months ago. Muscle weighs more than fat, so I just have to keep telling myself that for the amount of muscle I’ve gained, to not have gained ANY weight, I’ve had to have lost a bit of fat. I see a difference in my body, but it’s hard to feel good when our culture has trained us to live by the numbers on the scale.
This last week, I worked out 6 days in a row. Monday I did my at home work out, Tuesday was Body Pump, Wednesday I went to the gym and worked out on the Arc Trainer, then the Treadmill, Thursday was Body Pump, Friday I did the Arc Trainer, Treadmill and Bike, and Saturday was the same as Friday. Today is Sunday, and it’s my day off!
Tomorrow I will probably go to the gym in the morning, then it’s off to San Antonio for the week. Next Saturday (6 days from now) we’re going to the wedding of Jeremiah’s best friend, where Matthew is going to be the ring-bearer. I’m excited but I’m so nervous that Matthew won’t behave. I’ll just have to wait and see I suppose. Usually when I go to SA, I don’t work out and end up feeling like crap about myself. Well I finally did my research, found out there’s a YMCA right by my sister’s house that I can go to. Yay! That means I’ll only miss about 2 days of workouts (because of the wedding stuff & working at the church) instead of 6 or 7. Yay!
OHHAITHUR.
I’ve been spending close to.. zero time online. Part of that is just reworking my priorities in terms of family and taking care of the house. The other part is just boredom with the internet. I got bored of my website and bored of forums and facebook, etc. Now I’m back and hoping to find that healthy balance. Of course, Jeremiah’s out of town right now so I’ve been online more in the evenings, but I’m enjoying my alone time, and I’m obviously being semi-productive online.
How do you like the new layout? This is the first one in.. 2 or more years that I’ve built from the bottom up. I generally either edit other themes or edit my old themes that I’ve made. I decided I want to actually get back into webdesign a bit, so I need to start refreshing my memory and learning new things.
Matthew is doing really well. He’s all talk and attitude now. While he’s in the terrible three’s, he’s really mellowed out in the last week. For about a month, Jeremiah and I were hanging onto our sanity by a thread. I’m so glad we stayed consistent with punishments, etc, and now I think he’s gotten the hint that it’s not going to fly. Of course, he still acts up.. he IS a three year old, but it’s been a few days since we’ve dealt with one of his horrible tantrums, and those were happening 3x a day for a while!
I’m off to spent a few with my mom, and eventually head to bed. I hope everyone had a great weekend!
I’ve been really into this show lately. Yeah, yeah, judge me all you want. She’s made a lot of mistakes, but this show kind of shows that she’s a better person than she gets the bad reputation for. Everyone has intimate relationships, a lot of people make videos, and hers just got shown to the public. Then there’s the drinking and driving stuff, which is inexcusable, but if she’s learned from her mistakes, then she’s doing better than many people.
I like that she’s friends with Brooke, Charlie Sheen’s ex. It’s cool to see more of her story, and not just what you hear in the headlines. I’m so glad she’s had good experiences with alcohol rehab treatment centers. You should check out the show if you haven’t.
I wouldn’t mind having a motorhome one day. We used to have a pop-up camper, but I wasn’t a huge fan of that. It was small and cramped, and a raccoon tried to kill me at night when we were sleeping in it. :X
The only thing I’m concerned about is motorhome repairs. Finding a good company for auto repair in general is hard, so it’s important to find someone reliable and stick with them. Luckily, Jeremiah can do most of that stuff himself. I have to do much more research, and obviously we’re no where near having that kind of money, but it’s something to think about.
I love my phone, but I sometimes miss the days where phones were simple and there was no texting and driving, or calls interrupting everything you’re doing. I don’t really miss the days of GPS navigators, though if I got one again it’d be something simple like the garmin zumo. It’s small and uncomplicated, which I like. Our old GPS had an MP3 player and I didn’t need that.. in my car! I do love my phone, but sometimes 4G and texting and stuff seems so overwhelming.
Jeremiah has so many more shoes than I do. He will deny it, because I outnumber him if you consider my flip flops. But hey, most of my flip flops were $1.99 or something from Kohls. He likes shoes, though, and I know some of the ones he used to wear on a regular basis are wearing down and he wants to replace them. I might consider getting him something new for either his birthday or Christmas. He has some old boots that are in need of replacing. I’ve been looking at Vasque Boots and a couple of other brands, and I think I have some good ideas.
Lately I’ve spent less and less time online. Angel can attest to that one. I just don’t feel motivated in any way when it comes to the internet. I don’t really like my website anymore, though I think it’s common to go through phases like that. I’d like a new layout, but have no inspiration or motivation to create one, and I don’t really have any connections in the graphics world. I’ve been kind of busy cleaning the house and taking care of things. This last weekend we went down to San Antonio, so I wasn’t around then either. I just seem to find reasons to not be online, and then I find myself missing the online world.. and my bestie!
Matthew has been his typical horrible 3 year old self. Independent and cranky, testing his limits.. testing MY patience. Then there’s the fact that there’s three dogs in my house, and one dog in particular seems to need attention 24/7. Clingy husky FTL.
How’s everyone else doing? Anyone want to make me a layout? Or even give me some sort of incentive to get back into my website.. I just need to get back to using desktop computers.. I’ve been using Jeremiah’s laptop and don’t really like it, but I’m lazy, hah.
