Doing all this constructiony stuff around our house makes me realize how good I am at not being careful. We’re not used to having to watch ourselves constantly for safety reasons, and we’re certainly not generally used to having to worry about Matthew picking up the reciprocating saw. So, we’ve been more careful. It helps that Jeremiah has disability insurance through the military if he hurts himself or something, haha. Takes one of the negatives away from doing things yourself, since we know he wouldn’t lose his job or anything if he got hurt at home. Of course, that’s no reason to be less careful, it’s just a little peace of mind.
We’ve been married 5 1/2 years and have always rented. Well, this past Tuesday, we signed the papers on our first house. It closed Wednesday and the house became ours! This is the house we’ve been renting for the past few months, but we bought it from the owners for a decent price. We will be updating the house and bit, including re-doing the kitchen, so these are also before pictures for our projects. ![]()
The rest of the house is pretty basic. Three bedrooms, two baths. Nice backyard. But it’s our little house now, and I love it.
Mother’s day is almost here, and I can’t help but feel an ounce of dread. While I know it’s supposed to be a happy day, it’s not like Matthew is old enough to make me a cute present, and Jeremiah doesn’t really recognize it.
I’m not into the buying gold or silver or any kind of fancy presents, though this year I kind of want one of two things. I either want to finally get my tattoo for Matthew done, or I want a cute necklace or bracelet with Matthew’s name and birthday on it. I saw a bracelet in a magazine the other day that has a tiny charm on it which you can put a picture in. Or a locket.. that’d be nice.
Maybe I’ll get it for myself for mother’s day.
We had thunderstorms the other night and I feel like I’m still trying to recover from the lack of sleep. My dumb wimpy dog freaks out at all thunderstorms and loud noises.
Now, some people might recommend Cesar Milan’s route, in which you play thunderstorm noises and comfort the dog.. play classical music, cover his crate, etc.
Yeah, no worky. This dog has full blown ridiculous panic attacks. If we don’t respond to him RIGHT AWAY the second the thunder starts (which is usually the case, because thunderstorms tend to come in the middle of the night) he starts clawing and biting at the crate, and by the time I get in the room he is in, there’s usually some blood on the floor. So far he’s never hurt himself badly enough to require a vet visit or anything, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that did happen one day.
In the meantime, we run to him as fast as we can, put his crate in the living room, put on classical music and lay on the living room floor next to him.
The dumb dog needs a depo testosterone injection. GROW UP AND BE A MANNN!
Today we went to the Trader’s Village here. It’s basically the largest flea market in the country. I mean.. HUNDREDS of booths. It was ridiculous. I got my first sunburn of the year, but we also got a few pieces of art for really cheap, and a bucket of oranges (Matthew wanted a snack, haha). It was really fun, despite being exhausted.
Trader’s Village has vendors that sell everything from cell phone cases to car tires.. puppies and birds (which I dislike seeing sold there, but meh) to clothing and lawnmowers. Jeremiah and I shared a turkey leg, because you can’t go to those kinds of places without getting some sort of fair/market food. I really wanted to get some more produce and maybe some plants for our garden, but I think we were all too ready to go home by the time we made the huge loop.
Has anyone ever been to a flea market? Those places are huge. I wouldn’t be surprised if they sold Offshore Injury Insurance there. :O
I kind of fell off the wagon there for a bit. I have still been online, my brain has just been busy. I’ll make a list of what’s been going on, because that’s easier for me.
-My sister was in town last week. Jeremiah happened to be out of town on a work trip because he had some boring conference in New Orleans, LA. We had a lot of fun. Matthew, her and I went to IKEA and she ended up spending $250 to re-decorate and semi-furnish (we only had a bed for him) Matthew’s room. THEN we went to the Mattel Outlet Store where she spent another $60 on him!
-We moved from having DirecTV for television and AT&T DSL for internet, to having AT&T UVerse for both. It comes out to a similar price but we have faster internet, and 6 free months of movie channels. Plus, you get a new promotional contract price EVERY YEAR as opposed to DirecTV who does, 1 year promotional price on a 2 year contract. This all happened because 2 months after DirecTV gave us discounts, they said, oh, we gave you too many discounts, so we’re taking them back now. DirecTV sucks. Me no likey.
-We’re closing on our house hopefully next Monday, April 11th. This is going to bring huge changes in terms of, we’re going to remodel our kitchen and re-paint the bedrooms, plus put new carpet in the bedrooms and possibly pergo laminate in the living room. I’m SO excited for all of this and I’m hoping it works out.
-Last, but certainly not least.. I’ve been doing well at the gym. I’ve been going to Body Pump classes at my local YMCA for a while on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and then on M, W, F just doing my own thing at the gym, but I’ve just started a Spinning class I’m going to go to on Wednesdays and Fridays. I have a workout buddy like I kind of.. forced to be my workout buddy, and I’m stalking her to classes and making her hold me accountable. I’m sure she doesn’t mind. BUT I love the classes. I hurt, but I’m having fun and getting healthy at the same time!
What is everyone up to lately?
My dad used to have one of those Ingersoll rand air compressors when I was younger and all I remember is he would use it every few days for SOMETHING. From sandblasting, to filling up his car tires with air, to pressure washing the driveway. I would NOT mind having one of those things at all. We have a pressure washer which is basically a mini air compressor for a water hose, but it’s a piece of crap. I’d much rather have a multi-use item that works well.
